Our client approached CHS Landscapes looking to completely revitalise their tired and disjointed garden. The existing space featured multiple raised timber decks, heavy shading, uneven levels, and limited practical use. Over time, the decking had become slippery and weathered, and the layout no longer suited how the family wanted to use the garden.
Their vision was clear: create a cleaner, brighter, and more functional garden that would be enjoyable year-round, with dedicated areas for dining, relaxing, and entertaining.

Design & Materials
Working closely with the client, our team developed a fresh landscape design focused on modern usability and low maintenance. The main elements included:
- Removal of all decking and redundant structures
- Introduction of new porcelain paving to brighten the terrace and create a strong, durable surface
- Redefined lawn area, reshaped for visual flow
- Retaining and level adjustments using timber sleepers for a cleaner transition
- Construction of a bespoke covered pergola structure
- Bamboo cladding detailing, creating a private and immersive outdoor dining space
- Integrated lighting, transforming the setting into an atmospheric evening garden
Porcelain was chosen for its slip-resistant surface and contemporary look, while the timber and bamboo brought warmth and a natural contrast.

The Build
With the design agreed, our team began by clearing the site and dismantling the old decking. The levels were then reworked, and new foundations prepared for both the porcelain terrace and the pergola.
Once the paving was laid, attention turned to constructing the bespoke covered structure. The addition of bamboo cladding created an incredibly inviting feature, offering shelter, privacy and a touch of tropical personality. The lawn was reshaped and newly laid, softening the overall aesthetic and giving the garden a practical centrepiece.
To finish, lighting was installed within the pergola and perimeter, ensuring the space can be enjoyed long into the evening.

After – A Garden with Heart & Purpose
The completed garden is unrecognisable from what stood before. The previously disjointed space is now cohesive, balanced, and genuinely functional. The porcelain terrace provides a smart, low-maintenance dining platform, while the bespoke pergola has become the focal point of the garden — perfect for entertaining and summer meals.
The transformation also delivered a greater sense of openness. With more lawn and less visual clutter, the garden feels larger, calmer and far more inviting.
